Freiburgs Wahrzeichen ist der
Münster, dessen Turm als einziger großer Kirchturm
Deutschlands noch im Mittelalter fertig gestellt wurde (1330). Im Krieg blieben der
Münster, das
historische Kaufhaus, das
Wentzingerhaus und die Alte Wache sowie
die beiden Stadttore,
Martinstor und
Schwabentor, fast unversehrt, obwohl die
Altstadt großen Schaden
erlitt.

Freiburgs’s major sight
is the
Freiburg Minster, which
has
the only tower in Germany that was completed in the Middle Ages
(1330). During
World War II the cathedral, the Historical Merchants
Hall, the Wentzingerhaus and
the Alte Wache as well as the two town
gates Martin’s Gate and the Swabian Gate
remained intact whereas the
rest of the downtown area suffered heavy damages.
